Stowe & Sons Classic 78ft Ketch built in 1895- Rona was originally built with a clipper bow, long bowsprit and was rigged as a gaff yawl. She was raced and cruised until in 1937 when she was badly damaged after running aground during a gale. She was then rebuilt six feet longer with her bow altered to the shape we now see and was re-rigged as a cutter rigged ketch, finally she was back sailing again in 1951. In 1960 she was lent to the Royal Navy who used her as a training vessel and entered her in the Tall Ships Race before being given back to her owner who sold her to Lord Amery.
Lord Amery then set up The London Sailing Project and Rona became their flagship. In 1962 Rona was again entered into the Tall Ships Race and she entered nearly every race for the next twenty years. After 32 years with the London Sailing Project she was showing the signs of the hard use and she returned to private ownership in 1993. Although structurally sound Rona was in need of a major refit, she was totally stripped out and restored and after four years hard work Rona was finished. She was then sold in 1997 following her refit and used again for both cruising and racing. Due to family and work commitments she was then placed on the market and bought by her current owner in 2007.
Since 2007 she has been kept in Lymington by her owner who has always kept her professionally maintained and in tip-top order. She now represents a fantastic opportunity for a new owner to enjoy this truly beautiful sailing yacht.
